GU CONVERTIBLE COLLAR LINER

SCOPE:
Installation of GU Convertible Collar Liner with flexible compression seal gasket to form a water tight connection at the precast concrete manhole flat top slab or precast concrete manhole cones and the grade adjustment (brick masonry, precast concrete grade rings*, or field poured concrete collar.) Note: In order to mount the GU Compression seal gasket; the precast concrete manhole top slab or cone must have access of 1 1/2" greater opening diameter then the I.D. of the GU Convertible Collar Liner to be installed. (i.e. 24" I.D. access GU Convertible Collar Liner requires a 25.5" opening / gasket mount in precast structure )

INSTALLATION:
(1) Inspection precast concrete. Top slab / cone for correct access opening diameter and for damage / irregularity which would prevent proper installation and seal.
(2) Clean dirt and / or excess concrete slurry from gasket mount area.
(3) Assemble precast manhole in the customary manner as prescribed by the precast manufacturer and the approved construction plans. GU Convertible Collar Liner for brick masonry or precast concrete grade rings* shall be used at grade to complete assembly of fully lined manhole if adjustment is necessary.
(4) Insert GU Lip Seal Gasket as prescribed. NOTE: The outer / upper lip of the gasket shall place evenly around the top interior edge of access opening. The gasket inner seal fins must be oriented down toward interior of access opening.
(5) Insert GU Convertible Collar Liner through the installed GU Lip Seal Gasket / precast access and deflect to conform accurately to the finished ground or pavement grade / as shown on the drawings or as directed by the engineer. Precast concrete grade rings* must be set on manhole flat top slab and/ or precast manhole cone sections BEFORE GU Convertible Collar Liner is installed.
(6) To provide grade adjustment for accurate setting of cast iron frames, brick masonry or precast concrete grade rings* or field poured concrete shall be set on top of manhole flat top slab and/ or precast manhole cone.
*IMPORTANT NOTE - precast concrete grade rings must have interior access opening diameter 1" to 1.5" greater than the I.D. of the GU Convertible Collar to be installed (i.e. 24" I.D. access GU Convertible Collar requires a 25" to 25.5" opening in precast concrete grade ring).
Set precast grade spacer rings or brick masonry in a full bed of non-shrink mortar in customary manner so that the space between each ring or brick course is completely filled. (Be sure to apply sufficient mortar to the GU Convertible Collar Liner and brick courses so the vertical space between liner and brick masonry is completely filled).
(7) Manhole Frame shall be "sealed" to the top flange of the GU Convertible Collar with approved Butyl Rubber Preformed Flexible Joint Sealant** . It is recommended that the butyl rubber sealant strip be approximately 1/4" to 3/8" thick by 3/4" to 1 1/4" wide (dimensions vary per sealant manufacturer). **Butyl Rubber Preformed Flexible Joint Sealant "gasket material" shall comply with most current revision of Standard Specification ASTM C990, Section 6.2 - Butyl Rubber Sealant and Federal Specification SS-S-210A type I and shall be applied per manufacturer's instructions. (NOTE: Thicker sealant strips which are typically used for precast concrete structure joints are too thick and may prevent accurately setting the GU Brick Adjustment Chimney Liner and the cast iron frame to the correct grade.) . The cast iron frame and cover shall be installed as prescribed by utility specifications or as directed by the engineer.
(8) There shall be no exposed mortar through inside liner collar surface at cast iron cover frame ring joint or the precast manhole flat top slabs and precast manhole cones section joint which will permit the passage of liquid or gases through the liner wall to masonry adjustment or precast concrete sections
