SCOPE:
Installation of the GU Brick Adjustment Chimney
Liner is used to form a corrosion resistant barrier at the
grade adjustment (brick masonry, precast concrete grade rings**,
or field poured concrete collar) on sanitary sewer precast
concrete manhole flat top slabs or precast concrete manhole
cones as well existing sanitary sewer structures. Available
for standard sanitary sewer manhole access opening I.D. of
24", 30", 32", 34", & 36" with standard GU Brick Adjustment
Chimney Liner heights of 10", 14" & 20". (Special I.D. sizes
& heights available upon request)

INSTALLATION:
(1) Inspection precast concrete. Top slab
/ cone for correct access opening diameter and for damage
/ irregularity which would prevent proper installation and
seal.
(2) Clean dirt and / or excess concrete slurry from mount
area.
(3) Assemble precast manhole in the customary manner as prescribed
by the precast manufacturer and the approved construction
plans. GU Brick Adjustment Chimney Liner for brick
masonry or precast concrete ring shall be used at grade to
complete assembly of fully lined manhole if adjustment is
necessary. To conform accurately to pavement / finished grade
as shown on the drawings or as directed by the engineer, it
may be necessary to cut GU Brick Adjustment Chimney Liner
to required height.
(4) Apply bead of approved Butyl Rubber Preformed Flexible
Joint Sealant* to GU F.R.P. Liner flange lip on top of manhole
flat top or precast concrete manhole cone. "Bed" the GU
Brick Adjustment Chimney Liner in bead of Butyl Rubber
Preformed Flexible Joint Sealant. Apply sufficient pressure
to the chimney to "home" the section and form full gasket
seal. It is recommended that the Butyl Rubber Preformed Flexible
Joint Sealant* be approximately 1/4" to 3/8" thick by 3/4"
to 1 1/4" wide (dimensions vary per sealant manufacturer).
*Butyl Rubber Preformed Flexible Joint Sealant "gasket material"
shall comply with most current revision of Standard Specification
ASTM C990, Section 6.2 - Butyl Rubber Sealant and Federal
Specification SS-S-210A type I and shall be applied per manufacturer's
instructions. (NOTE: Thicker sealant strips which are typically
used for precast concrete structure joints are too thick and
may prevent accurately setting the GU Brick Adjustment
Chimney Liner and the cast iron frame to the correct grade.)
(5) To provide grade adjustment for accurate setting of cast
iron frames, brick masonry or precast concrete grade rings**
or field poured concrete shall be set on top of manhole flat
top slab and/ or precast manhole cone.
**Important Note: The precast concrete grade rings must
have I.D. access of 1" - 1.5" greater opening diameter then
the I.D. of the GU Brick Adjustment Chimney to be installed.
(i.e. 24" I.D. access GU convertible collar requires a 25"
- 25.5" opening in the precast concrete manhole precast concrete
grade rings )
Set precast grade spacer rings or brick masonry in a full
bed of non-shrink mortar in customary manner so that the space
between each ring or brick course is completely filled and
made watertight. (Be sure to apply sufficient mortar to the
GU Brick Adjustment Chimney Liner and brick courses
so the vertical space between liner and brick masonry is completely
filled)
( 6) Set and "home" manhole frame "internal" lip on bead of
approved Butyl Rubber Preformed Flexible Joint Sealant* strips
applied to the edge of GU Brick Adjustment Chimney Liner
and full bed of non shrink mortar in customary manner. The
cast iron frame and cover shall be installed as prescribed
by utility specifications or as directed by the engineer.
(7) There shall be no exposed mortar through inside liner
surface at cast iron cover frame ring joint or the precast
manhole flat top slab and/ or precast manhole cone section
joints which will permit the passage of liquid or gases through
the liner wall to masonry adjustment or precast concrete sections.
